WANA (Apr 23) – Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior has underscored the need to maintain and continue diplomatic channels between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran in order to reach a sustainable resolution to ongoing disputes.

According to official statements, the ministry stressed that “the continuation of diplomatic engagement between Washington and Tehran is essential for achieving a lasting solution.” Pakistan’s Interior Minister also welcomed the extension of the ceasefire between Iran and the United States, describing it as an important step toward de-escalation, and expressed hope that progress would also be made by the Iranian side.

In a related development, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on April 21, following the cancellation of a new round of Tehran–Washington talks that had been scheduled to take place in Islamabad, that the ceasefire would be extended for an unspecified period. In a post on social media, he said the decision was made at the request of senior Pakistani officials, including Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and would remain in place until Tehran presents a “unified and coherent proposal.”

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmail Baghaei, said on Wednesday in response to a question about future negotiations with the United States that “diplomacy is a tool to safeguard national interests and security.” He added that Tehran would make use of this tool when the necessary and reasonable conditions are in place to advance national interests and consolidate the country’s achievements.
