Pakistan Emphasizes Regional Diplomacy in Meetings with Iranian and U.S. Envoys
WANA (Apr 20) – Pakistan’s Interior Minister held separate meetings on Monday in Islamabad with the ambassadors of Iran and the United States, underscoring the importance of pursuing sustainable solutions through dialogue and diplomacy to ease regional tensions.
During his meeting with Iran’s ambassador, Reza Amiri-Moghaddam, which was attended by senior law enforcement officials including Islamabad’s police leadership, the two sides discussed regional developments, particularly the second round of potential Iran–U.S. negotiations. According to official sources, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi outlined the outcomes of his recent visit to Iran, which he undertook alongside the country’s army chief.
As stated by Pakistan’s Interior Ministry on X (formerly Twitter), the Iranian ambassador expressed appreciation for Islamabad’s efforts to help reduce tensions in the region. Both sides also emphasized the longstanding and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Iran, as well as the need to utilize diplomatic channels to enhance regional stability.
Pakistani officials further noted that necessary measures are being taken to manage and facilitate any potential diplomatic processes in the future, reaffirming Islamabad’s continued commitment to dialogue and de-escalation.
These diplomatic engagements come as Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated in a press briefing that Tehran currently has no plans to participate in a second round of talks with the United States in Islamabad. The spokesperson also referred to an alleged breach of a ceasefire by the U.S. during an attack on an Iranian vessel.
Notably, Pakistan’s Interior Minister also met with the U.S. ambassador in Islamabad on the same day, discussing issues of mutual interest.
