WANA (Apr 08) – Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, has welcomed the reported ceasefire agreement between Iran and the United States, describing it as a significant step toward de-escalation in the region.

 

In a post on the social media platform X, Sharif announced that both countries, along with their allies, had agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere including Lebanon. According to his statement, the ceasefire came into effect at 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 (Iran time), and 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7 (U.S. Eastern Time).

 

Praising the move as a “wise decision” by the leadership of both nations, the Pakistani prime minister extended an official invitation to Iranian and American delegations to convene in Islamabad on Friday, April 10, 2026. The proposed meeting aims to initiate formal negotiations toward a comprehensive and lasting agreement to resolve all outstanding disputes.

 

Sharif further noted that both sides have demonstrated “remarkable prudence and mutual understanding” in advancing peace efforts. He expressed hope that the proposed “Islamabad Talks” would pave the way for lasting regional stability and added that more positive developments are expected in the coming days.
