Pakistan Proposes Hosting Second Round of Iran–U.S. Talks in Islamabad
WANA (Apr 14) – Pakistan has offered to host the second round of negotiations between Iran and the United States in the coming days, as diplomatic efforts between Tehran and Washington continue.
According to Associated Press, citing two Pakistani officials, Islamabad has offered to hold the next round of talks in its capital before the current ceasefire expires. The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to a lack of authorisation to brief the media, noted that the proposal is contingent on both parties agreeing not to request a change of venue.
One of the officials emphasised that despite the first round ending without an agreement, the talks should be viewed as part of an ongoing diplomatic process rather than a one-off, unsuccessful effort.
Meanwhile, U.S. officials early Tuesday stated that Islamabad and Geneva are being considered as possible locations for the next round of negotiations.
The first round of talks between Iran and the United States was held last Saturday in Islamabad with Pakistan acting as mediator. The discussions lasted 24 hours but ultimately concluded without any results.
