Pakistani Army Chief Meets with Iranian President Pezeshkian
WANA (May 23) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran has demonstrated its adherence to international legal frameworks in practice, stating, “We are merely seeking to realize the legitimate and legal rights of our nation, but the history and experience of negotiating with the Americans dictate that we exercise the utmost caution.”
President Pezeshkian made the remarks during a meeting with General Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Expressing gratitude for the efforts of General Munir and the Pakistani government to ensure regional stability and security, Pezeshkian said, “The people and officials of Pakistan are our brothers, and we hold a deep, heartfelt affection for you. We Muslims are one single body and have no choice but to unite. We must strive through cooperation to elevate our standing and that of all Muslims worldwide.”
The Iranian President added that it is his core belief that the unity and cohesion of the Islamic world must be pursued through practical measures, expanding economic, social, political, and cultural interactions. Increasing cooperation among the peoples of Islamic nations, he noted, is the most critical factor in achieving practical unity and eliminating grounds for dispute and conflict.
Turning to regional conflicts, Dr. Pezeshkian underscored that war has never brought benefits to anyone. “The United States will not be the victor in this conflict; rather, it is the countries of the region and the world that will suffer serious losses. The Zionist regime is the only party seeking to secure its own interests in the region through war,” the President remarked.

Highlighting the deep mistrust the Iranian people hold toward the United States due to repeated breaches of commitments, attacks launched mid-negotiation, and the assassination of officials, Pezeshkian stated, “Under such circumstances, the Islamic Republic of Iran has entered the path of negotiation by relying on brotherly relations with friendly countries, including Pakistan. However, our main objective remains solely to secure the interests of the Iranian nation through appropriate and necessary means.”
For his part, General Asim Munir expressed his satisfaction at having the opportunity to meet with the Iranian President once again. Conveying the warm greetings and well wishes of Pakistan’s Prime Minister and President to Dr. Pezeshkian, General Munir noted, “Fortunately, the negotiation process is progressing well.”
The Pakistani Army Chief praised the Iranian President’s viewpoints, adding, “Israel seeks its own interests in conflicts and divisions among Muslims in the region. It holds a serious enmity toward anyone—including myself—who works to resolve conflicts, and it has no desire to see stability and security established in the region.”
General Munir emphasized that Pakistan’s sole objective is to establish stability and prevent the continuation or recurrence of war and conflict in the region. He expressed hope that the ongoing negotiations would swiftly yield a desirable outcome for Iran, as well as for all nations and Muslims in the region.
In addition to his meeting with the President, Field Marshal Munir held separate discussions with the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Seyed Abbas Araghchi.
