Pakistan’s PM Shehbaz Sharif Urges Iran and U.S. to Exercise Restraint in Call With Pezeshkian
WANA (Jul 10) – Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, calling on Iran, the United States, and all other parties to exercise restraint, without referring to the U.S. attacks and actions.
According to Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s Office, Sharif emphasized the need to restore regional peace and stability.
The statement said that, without identifying the United States as the main source of the ceasefire and memorandum violations, Sharif urged Iran and all other parties to exercise restraint.
Under the first clause of the Iran–U.S. memorandum of understanding, both sides commit to refraining from any hostile action against one another and from the threat or use of force against each other.
The statement added that Sharif called on all sides to avoid any action that could undermine the hard-won peace and ceasefire.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s Office also said that Sharif stressed to Pezeshkian the importance of adhering to the commitments contained in the memorandum of understanding.
It concluded by saying that both leaders reaffirmed the close and brotherly ties between Pakistan and Iran and agreed to remain in contact on issues related to regional peace and security.
Separately, Sharif said in a post on X that he had spoken with President Pezeshkian about the evolving regional situation and had emphasized the need for restraint, dialogue, and diplomacy to preserve the hard-won peace achieved in recent months.
He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness to continue playing the role of an honest and sincere mediator for lasting regional peace.
Sharif added that the two leaders had agreed to advance the agenda of bilateral cooperation reached during President Pezeshkian’s recent visit to Islamabad.
