WANA (Jan 19) – Iran’s president, Masoud Pezeshkian, responding to remarks made by Donald Trump a day earlier, wrote in a post on the social media platform X that any attack on the country’s Supreme Leader would be tantamount to an all-out war with the Iranian nation.

He warned that any act of aggression against the Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran would be regarded as an “all-out war against the Iranian people.”

In his message on X, Pezeshkian condemned Trump’s comments and stressed that Iran’s economic pressures and the livelihood challenges facing its people do not stem solely from domestic factors. He said a significant part of these difficulties is the result of what he described as the United States’ “long-standing hostility” and sanctions that Tehran considers “inhumane.”

He wrote: “If there is hardship and constraint in the lives of the dear people of Iran, one of its main causes is the long-standing hostility and the inhumane sanctions imposed by the U.S. government and its allies.”

Trump, in an interview with Politico, said it was time to seek new leadership in Iran. He added that Tehran’s rulers rely on repression and violence to govern the country, claiming that what Khamenei has done as the country’s leader has amounted to the complete destruction of Iran and the use of violence at unprecedented levels.

Mehdi Fazayeli, a member of the Office for the Preservation and Publication of the Supreme Leader’s Works, described Trump’s remarks in the Politico interview as the flailing of a criminal.

These statements come amid renewed verbal tensions between Iranian officials and U.S. political figures, as diplomatic relations between the two countries remain strained.

From the perspective of observers, Pezeshkian’s remarks carry a clear message for foreign audiences: Tehran views any direct targeting of the country’s political and religious leadership not as a personal stance, but as a threat against the entire Iranian nation.
