Pezeshkian Begins Two-Day Visit to Armenia and Belarus
WANA (Aug 18) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian departed Tehran today for Armenia and Belarus. He was seen off by First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref and Hojjatoleslam Mohsen Qomi, Deputy for International Affairs at the Office of Iran’s Supreme Leader.
The two-day visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in trade, and to sign several agreements.
Before leaving Tehran today, President Pezeshkian said, “This trip continues the priority-focused visits we have been making to neighboring countries. In line with the general policies and guidance of the Supreme Leader, our neighbors are our priority.”
He added, “We share a long-standing and strategic relationship with our friendly neighbor, Armenia. Both countries have sought to maintain strong ties in political, economic, cultural, and social spheres. Numerous agreements have been reached to facilitate closer cooperation. The purpose of this trip is to expand economic and cultural connections and accelerate previous initiatives.”
The President noted that discussions will include the North-South and East-West trade corridors to enhance regional trade routes.
He also expressed concerns regarding the presence of American companies in the region, saying: “There is a worry that some companies may enter under the guise of business but pursue other objectives. Past experiences confirm this concern. We will discuss these issues during our visit.”
Pezeshkian highlighted that several agreements covering technical, engineering, construction, mining, arts, social affairs, and tourism sectors are ready for signing. He emphasized that these agreements will deepen bilateral ties, particularly since Armenia is part of the Eurasian Union, of which Iran has recently become a member.
Regarding Belarus, the President stated, “After Armenia, we will visit Belarus. In recent years, both countries have maintained strong cooperation in cultural, economic, scientific, and social areas. This includes technology transfer, agriculture, industry, and mining.”
“Belarus has consistently supported Iran’s positions in international forums, strongly condemning Israeli attacks against Iran and taking firm stances on Gaza. Our relations can expand further, helping to overcome the restrictions imposed on our country. During this visit, we will sign agreements beneficial to Iran, he added.”
