Pezeshkian Calls for Revival of Iran-Pakistan-Turkey Trade Pacts
WANA (Aug 03) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized the need to revive long-standing but unimplemented trilateral trade and economic agreements between Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey.
On Sunday, during the second day of his official visit to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Pezeshkian met with Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, at his residence in Islamabad.
In the meeting, the President expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s support of the Islamic Republic of Iran during the recent aggression by the Israeli regime. He stated:
“We thank Pakistan for standing with us against Israel’s Islamic and inhumane aggression. The support from our brothers in Pakistan was clearly felt.”
Quoting a Persian proverb, “A friend is known in travel and hardship,” Pezeshkian remarked that the crisis proved Pakistan’s support for Iran went beyond diplomatic gestures and revealed the true depth of the brotherhood between the two nations. He praised the roles played by the Pakistani government, scholars, parliament, and public.
Pezeshkian stressed the necessity of strengthening economic, scientific, and cultural ties among Islamic countries, stating: “If the Islamic Ummah can achieve true unity and cohesion, the Zionist regime would no longer dare to aggress against Muslim countries.”
He also emphasized that Islamic solidarity should not be limited to the issue of Israel, but could serve as a global model against hegemonic powers, asserting that Iran and Pakistan could play a pioneering role.
Referring to the trilateral Iran-Pakistan-Turkey agreements, Pezeshkian said that despite their strategic importance, these pacts had not been implemented and must now be revived with a new approach.
He described the expansion of economic ties among Muslim countries as essential to building endogenous power and called for a platform for scholars, experts, industrialists, and economic actors from both countries to exchange skills, experiences, markets, and achievements.
Thanking Pakistan for its hospitality, Pezeshkian stated: “In the Islamic world, if creativity, capital, and knowledge are connected, we can generate power instead of conflict, and redefine the rightful standing of the Islamic Ummah.”
During the meeting, Ishaq Dar welcomed President Pezeshkian’s visit to Islamabad, saying it was time for bilateral relations to enter a new phase. He noted that several agreements and MoUs were ready for signing.
He described Pezeshkian’s visit to the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal in Lahore, accompanied by Mohammad Nawaz Sharif, as a symbol of the deep cultural bonds between the two nations.
Dar also endorsed Pezeshkian’s proposal for enhanced trilateral cooperation among Iran, Turkey, and Pakistan, calling it a significant initiative to strengthen regional connectivity, and confirmed full support from the Pakistani government.
Referring to Pakistan’s active role in the recent UN Security Council meeting on attacks against Iran’s diplomatic missions, Dar said: “Our participation was a defense of Iran’s position, and we clearly expressed our support. An attack on Iran is considered an attack on Pakistan because the Islamic Ummah is one body—harm to one part affects the whole.”
He concluded by affirming: “Pakistan aims to achieve the highest level of sustainable and strategic cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
