WANA (Jun 30) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian criticized the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for its perceived bias and failure to condemn attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, questioning why Israel—a non-signatory to the NPT (Non-Proliferation Treaty)—should serve as a reference for the Agency’s reports.

In a phone call Sunday night with French President Emmanuel Macron, Pezeshkian responded to Macron’s concerns over Iran’s reduced cooperation with the IAEA by condemning what he described as the IAEA Director General’s “inaccurate reporting” and silence in the face of Israeli attacks on Iranian nuclear sites.

“The Agency has not acted impartially regarding Iran’s nuclear file, despite our cooperation,” Pezeshkian stated. “This conduct is unacceptable to us.”

He emphasized that the Iranian parliament’s recent decisions reflect the will of the people and were a natural response to what he called the IAEA’s “unjust and destructive behavior.”

Despite Iran’s consistent denial of any intention to build nuclear weapons and its openness to negotiations, Pezeshkian said the country had been attacked by Israel during talks with the United States, with U.S. support.

He stressed that the attacks, which killed Iranian civilians, scientists, and military commanders, were met not with condemnation but with justification by Western governments and international bodies. “Those who claim to uphold human rights chose instead to justify this inhumane and illegal act,” he said.

The president added that Iran’s nuclear activities have always been under IAEA supervision and monitoring, yet after repeated sabotage attacks by Israel and direct U.S. military action, the Agency failed to condemn the incidents and instead appeared to rationalize them.

“When the IAEA Director General refuses to uphold his own organization’s laws and fails to condemn attacks on our nuclear facilities, how can we expect member states to comply?” Pezeshkian asked.

He warned that the IAEA’s recent conduct had severely damaged the Iranian public’s trust and stressed that the only way to rebuild this trust is for the Agency to fully adhere to its own regulations.

Pezeshkian reiterated Iran’s principled stance against war and emphasized resolving disputes through diplomacy and dialogue. He urged international organizations, including the IAEA, to fulfill their commitments and lead the world toward peace instead of conflict.

He concluded: “Given recent events, how can we guarantee that, even if cooperation continues, our nuclear facilities won’t be attacked again?”

He denounced Israel as a regime responsible for unprecedented crimes against civilians in Gaza, stating that it now brazenly attacks Iran while blaming Tehran for regional instability. “When the international community remains silent, what meaning do international laws truly have?”

Macron Acknowledges Iran’s Concerns, Condemns Israeli Attacks

French President Emmanuel Macron offered condolences for Iranian lives lost in recent Israeli strikes and affirmed that France was among the first nations to condemn the U.S.-Israeli military attacks on Iran.

Macron emphasized that France does not recognize Israel’s legitimacy in intervening in Iran’s nuclear file and acknowledged Tehran’s concerns over the IAEA’s impartiality.

He also expressed support for continued cooperation between Iran and the IAEA, potentially under a new framework.

He stated that any future negotiations with Tehran should address Iran’s ballistic missile program, its nuclear activities, and commitments under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
