WANA (May 07) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has provided new details about his recent meeting with Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, describing the talks as “warm, calm, and based on mutual trust.” He said the meeting focused on the importance of national unity, economic management, and maintaining social cohesion during a period of growing regional tension.

Pezeshkian said the meeting lasted for nearly two and a half hours and was conducted in what he described as an unusually open and intimate atmosphere. According to the president, conversations were held directly and without formality, creating what he called an environment of “calm, trust, and mutual understanding” between senior officials and the country’s leadership.

The Iranian president emphasized that the most memorable aspect of the meeting was not limited to political discussions, but rather the personal conduct and leadership style displayed during the talks. He described Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei’s approach as humble, simple, and deeply respectful toward those present, saying this atmosphere encouraged frank and sincere dialogue.

Pezeshkian argued that such behavior could serve as a practical model for Iran’s broader administrative structure. He said governance should be based on responsibility, public accountability, and genuine engagement with people’s concerns rather than hierarchy or distance from society. He added that strengthening trust between officials and the public remains essential for preserving national cohesion during difficult periods.

Emphasis on “People-Oriented Governance”

The Iranian president said the most striking aspect of the meeting was the Supreme Leader’s “humility, sincerity, and direct engagement” with officials.

According to Pezeshkian, this leadership style could serve as a model for Iran’s administrative system — one based on listening to public concerns, accountability, and reducing the distance between officials and ordinary citizens.

He also stressed that positions of power in Iran’s political system should not be viewed as privileges, but as responsibilities centered on serving the public and remaining accountable to society.

Concerns Over Economic Pressure and Regional Conflict

The meeting with business and market representatives focused on inflation, market stability, and the economic impact of recent tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. Iranian officials have repeatedly described the current situation as part of a broader “economic and hybrid war” against the country.

Pezeshkian said the relative stability of Iran’s markets has been possible only through cooperation between the government, private sector, and trade associations. He warned that managing the country’s economic challenges would not be possible without stronger internal coordination.

Political Message on Internal Unity

A major part of the president’s remarks focused on the need to preserve domestic unity. He argued that political and social disagreements should not be allowed to deepen internal divisions, saying Iran’s adversaries are seeking to exploit such fractures.

Pezeshkian also criticized political polarization and what he described as a culture of accusation inside the country, warning against labeling people as “traitors” or “spies” simply because of differing views.

Despite political differences, he said, most Iranians remain united in their support for the country’s security, stability, and national dignity.

Expanding the Role of the Private Sector

The Iranian president also announced that the government is prepared to delegate some executive authority to trade groups and civil organizations, signaling a possible effort to expand the role of the private sector and reduce pressure on state institutions.

He described merchants, business owners, and economic actors as essential to helping Iran navigate its current economic difficulties and called for greater participation from them in economic decision-making.
