Pezeshkian Hails Iraq’s Elections as a Symbol of National Strength
WANA (Nov 14) – In a recent phone call between the Iranian President and the Iraqi Prime Minister, Masoud Pezeshkian praised the “magnificent and peaceful” conduct of Iraq’s latest parliamentary elections, calling it a valuable achievement and a sign of the growing credibility and dignity of the Iraqi nation. He expressed hope that bilateral relations would continue to deepen across all fields in the coming term.
According to the report, Pezeshkian congratulated Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani on his electoral victory, emphasizing that this political milestone reflects the maturity and determination of the Iraqi people and could pave the way for expanded cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad.
In response, al-Sudani thanked the Iranian president for his call and his warm congratulations, describing the election as transparent, calm, and successful across the country. He noted that this was the sixth national election since Iraq’s political transition in 2003 and highlighted its most significant outcome: the highest voter turnout since 2015, indicating rising public confidence in the political system.
Al-Sudani added that the Iraqi people had once again demonstrated their commitment to the democratic path they have chosen. He expressed hope that the results of the election would further strengthen Iraq’s recent trajectory of development and progress. The prime minister also reaffirmed Baghdad’s determination to expand bilateral and regional cooperation with Iran in the coming period.
