Pezeshkian: Harsher Response Awaits Further Aggression
WANA (Jun 15) – President Masoud Pezeshkian has strongly condemned a recent Israeli airstrike on Iranian territory, launched via Iraqi airspace, calling it a “blatant act of aggression” and a “clear violation of international law.”
Speaking in a phone conversation with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, Pezeshkian emphasized Iran’s right to defend itself and warned that any further attacks would be met with “even more painful and crushing responses.”
“We did not start this war,” said the President, “but we responded with strength. If the aggressions continue, harsher and more decisive retaliation awaits the aggressors.”
Pezeshkian criticized the Israeli strike as not only a threat to Iran but a continuation of a broader pattern of aggression against Islamic nations, from Palestine and Lebanon to Syria.
“The Zionist regime’s criminal nature and disregard for international norms are evident,” he said, warning that if not stopped by a unified and resolute stance from the Islamic world, other countries in the region will also become targets.
He further urged Iraq to exercise greater control over its borders and airspace to prevent such violations, stating, “We insist that the Iraqi government must take more serious measures to guard its sovereignty and ensure its territory is not used for hostile acts against the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
The Iranian leader reiterated that peace and stability in the region require global resistance to Israeli militarism. “Any nation that genuinely seeks peace must stand firmly against the aggression of the Zionist regime,” he added.
Iraqi PM Voices Solidarity with Iran, Condemns Israeli Attack
In the same phone call, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani expressed his condolences over the deaths of Iranian commanders and civilians in the Israeli strike.
He declared Iraq’s solidarity with Iran, stating, “We stand in the same trench with the Islamic Republic of Iran, and we strongly condemn the Zionist regime’s acts of aggression on every level.”
Al-Sudani praised Iran’s response to the attack as a source of pride and a legitimate defense of national sovereignty. He confirmed that Iraq had filed a formal complaint with the UN Security Council and is pursuing legal, political, and diplomatic actions regarding the use of its airspace in the strike.
“We are also applying political and media pressure on the United States and other countries that enabled this act of aggression,” he added.
The Iraqi premier concluded by affirming that all state resources are at the disposal of Iran and that measures are underway to prevent similar violations in the future. “We will intensify our monitoring of borders and airspace with greater seriousness,” he said.
Iraqi Resistance Warns the U.S.: “Any Interference Will Be Met with Force”
In a separate statement, Iraq’s Kata’ib Hezbollah (Hezbollah Brigades) also issued a stark warning to the United States, declaring it would launch attacks on American interests and bases across the region if the U.S. intervenes in the conflict.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran needs no one’s help to confront the criminal Zionist regime,” the group said. “Iran possesses all the capabilities needed to humiliate Netanyahu and suppress this usurping regime’s tyranny.”
The statement concluded with a warning: “While Iran stands firm against the Zionist assault, we are closely monitoring U.S. military movements in the region. Should America involve itself in the war, we will strike—without hesitation.”
