WANA (Jul 03) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held a series of meetings today with heads of state and senior regional officials who traveled to Tehran for the memorial ceremonies of Iran’s late leader.

 

He held talks with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Iraqi President Nizar Mohammed Said Amidi, Turkmen National Leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Iraqi Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani, and Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili.

 

Pezeshkian also met with Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, special delegations from Afghanistan, China, and Namibia.

During separate meetings in Tehran with special delegations from China, Namibia, and Afghanistan, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said recent US and Israeli attacks on Iran, which resulted in the death of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and other Iranian citizens, constituted a clear violation of the United Nations Charter and international law.

 

The president welcomed the delegations and thanked their governments for condemning recent acts of aggression by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran.

 

Referring to the military attacks, President Pezeshkian said the aggression violated the fundamental principles of the UN Charter, norms of international law, the respect for national sovereignty, and international humanitarian law.

 

He said the attacks resulted in the death of senior military commanders, government officials, scientists, and civilians, adding that strikes on civilian facilities and the killing of innocent people represented serious breaches of internationally recognized legal norms.

 

President Pezeshkian stressed that Iran would pursue legal and diplomatic measures to hold those responsible, as well as their supporters, accountable before international organizations and legal bodies.

 

The president also reiterated Iran’s commitment to promoting regional peace and stability, saying Tehran seeks relations with neighboring countries based on good neighborliness, mutual respect, and shared interests. He added that no country should allow its territory or resources to be used by aggressors against Iran’s sovereignty and people.

 

Highlighting ties with friendly nations, President Pezeshkian said expanding cooperation with China, Namibia, and Afghanistan remains a strategic priority for Iran. He expressed readiness to strengthen collaboration in political, economic, trade, investment, cultural, scientific, technological, and people-to-people exchanges.

 

The visiting delegations conveyed condolences from their respective leaders over the death of Ayatollah Khamenei and reaffirmed their support for Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

 

They also expressed interest in expanding bilateral relations and cooperation with the Islamic Republic across various fields.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Israel is the primary driver of escalating insecurity and instability in West Asia, warning that its continued attacks and destabilizing actions against countries including Lebanon, Gaza, Syria, and Iran pose a serious threat to regional peace and security.

 

Speaking during a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Pezeshkian thanked the Armenian government and people for their condolences and described their support as a sign of the deep historical friendship between the two countries.

 

The Iranian president said relations between Tehran and Yerevan have long been based on mutual respect, good neighborliness, and shared interests, adding that both countries have expanded constructive cooperation across various sectors.

 

Pezeshkian also thanked Armenia for what he described as its responsible approach and support during the recent war, saying Tehran views Yerevan’s cooperation as contributing to stronger bilateral ties and regional stability.

 

He expressed hope that negotiations on a comprehensive Iran-Armenia cooperation treaty would be concluded and signed soon, saying the agreement could open new avenues for bilateral relations. He stressed the importance of strengthening customs, transportation, transit infrastructure, and facilitating economic exchanges.

 

Pezeshkian said Iran-Armenia relations should remain free from external interference and develop according to the shared will of the two nations. He argued that the involvement of extra-regional powers has often complicated regional challenges rather than resolved them.

 

Reaffirming Iran’s regional policy, the president said countries in the region are capable of resolving their own disputes through dialogue, cooperation, and mutual respect. He also reiterated Iran’s commitment to respecting national sovereignty, international borders, and the territorial integrity of all states, saying Tehran favors political and diplomatic solutions over conflict.

 

For his part, Pashinyan extended Armenia’s condolences to the Iranian government and people, saying it was important for him to be in Tehran during the period of mourning. He recalled meeting Iran’s martyred leader twice, describing both meetings as warm, constructive, and based on mutual respect, and said the news of his martyrdom deeply saddened the Armenian government and people.

 

The Armenian prime minister said Armenia has consistently sought not only to avoid actions against Iran’s interests but also to stand alongside Iran within the framework of friendly relations and good neighborliness.

 

Pashinyan said Iran-Armenia relations are currently at their highest level since Armenia’s independence, with cooperation expanding in political, economic, trade, infrastructure, and regional fields.

 

He also reaffirmed that Armenia considers Iran’s security to be of special importance and pledged that Yerevan has not participated and will not participate in any plan, project, or action directed against Iran’s interests or security.

 

Pashinyan added that Armenia conducts its foreign policy transparently and remains ready to address any concerns raised by Iran. He concluded by saying the bilateral relationship is founded on trust, friendship, and mutual respect, and pledged that Armenia would not allow those ties to be undermined under any circumstances.

 

Meeting with Iraqi Kurdistan Region President

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian thanked Nechirvan Barzani, President of Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, for the region’s supportive stance during recent developments and called for stronger scientific, cultural, economic, and trade cooperation.

 

During a meeting in Tehran, Pezeshkian praised the Kurdistan Region for preventing its territory from being used against Iran, saying its responsible approach helped thwart hostile plots. He also condemned the recent U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran as violations of international law, arguing they strengthened national unity rather than weakening the country.

 

Barzani offered condolences over the deaths of Iran’s late leader and other victims, describing the loss as significant for both Iran and the region. He reaffirmed that the Kurdistan Region played no role in the recent conflict and did not allow its territory to be used for actions against Iran.

 

Barzani also highlighted the deep historical ties between the Kurdistan Region and Iran, welcomed expanding economic and border cooperation, and stressed that military pressure could not force the Iranian people to surrender due to their public support for the country.
