WANA (Apr 08) – Following the announcement of a ceasefire between Iran and the United States, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held separate high-level telephone conversations with Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to discuss regional developments and bilateral cooperation.

 

Japan Welcomes Diplomatic Progress

In her call with President Pezeshkian, Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae discussed the recent shifts in the regional landscape. According to the Japanese Prime Minister’s Office, Takaichi reiterated Japan’s position, emphasizing that de-escalation is of paramount importance.

 

The Prime Minister stated that Japan welcomes the recent announcements from the United States and Iran as a positive development. She remarked:

 

“The most important issue is that de-escalation, including the safety of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, be achieved steadily. We hope a final agreement is reached swiftly through diplomatic channels.”

 

Azerbaijan Congratulates Iran on Ceasefire

In a separate conversation, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev called President Pezeshkian to convey his congratulations regarding the declared ceasefire between Iran and the United States.

 

President Pezeshkian expressed his gratitude to President Aliyev for the congratulations and specifically thanked Azerbaijan for its humanitarian assistance to Iran during the recent period. During the call, the two leaders also reviewed and discussed various issues regarding bilateral cooperation between Tehran and Baku.
