Pezeshkian: Iran Has No Intention to Build Nuclear Weapons
WANA (Sep 25) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reaffirmed on Wednesday that, based on the fatwa of the Supreme Leader, the construction of nuclear weapons is prohibited in the Islamic Republic. He said Iran is ready to allow verification of this principle within the framework of international law and its national rights.
Speaking in New York on September 24 (local time), during a meeting with Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter, Pezeshkian stressed that Iran welcomes diplomatic dialogue to resolve disputes but warned that “if the snapback mechanism is activated, dialogue will no longer have any meaning.”
Referring to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Pezeshkian said: “Today, innocent children and women are dying due to the lack of food and medicine. Switzerland can play an effective role in preventing the continuation of this catastrophe and the crimes of the Zionist regime.”
He also expressed Iran’s readiness to expand cooperation and upgrade relations with Switzerland.
For her part, Keller-Sutter praised Pezeshkian’s constructive stance and underlined that both Iran and Switzerland share the goal of promoting global peace.
She said Switzerland welcomes Iran’s engagement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), emphasizing that diplomatic dialogue is the best way to address challenges and strengthen relations.
The Swiss president also condemned Israel’s attacks on Gaza, as well as on Iran and Qatar, reiterating her country’s commitment to securing a ceasefire in Gaza as soon as possible.
