Pezeshkian Says Strait of Hormuz Will Reopen if US Ends Blockade and Aggression
WANA (Sep 12) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened provided that the United States ends its blockade and aggression against Iran.
Speaking to an Indian television network on Saturday morning local time, Pezeshkian said the United States had failed to achieve its objectives through war and had therefore resorted to a maritime blockade.
He said Iran would not stop its activities, adding that the country’s livelihood did not depend on maritime routes and that the United States would not succeed through the blockade either.
Pezeshkian also referred to an agreement between Iran and Oman, saying that Arab foreign ministers were scheduled to meet in Muscat on Monday. He said an agreement between Oman and Iran concerning a joint route through the Strait of Hormuz would be signed in their presence and subsequently communicated to the International Maritime Organization.
He noted that countries whose territories had allegedly been used to launch attacks against Iran would also be represented at the meeting. Pezeshkian reiterated that the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened on the condition that the United States ends its blockade and aggression against Iran.
