WANA (Jan 30) – The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran has stressed that Tehran pursues engagement and dialogue based on mutual respect and international norms, but will respond decisively and without delay to any act of aggression against the country.

According to official sources, President Masoud Pezeshkian made the remarks during a telephone conversation with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, in which the two leaders reviewed the latest regional developments.

Pezeshkian expressed appreciation for the positions taken by Islamic countries and underlined the importance of coordinated regional efforts to reduce tensions and help consolidate lasting peace and stability.

Outlining Iran’s principled foreign policy approach, the Iranian president described the strengthening and expansion of relations with neighboring and Islamic countries as a strategic priority.

He emphasized that reinforcing fraternal ties, enhancing unity within the Islamic world, and expanding regional cooperation are core pillars of Iran’s foreign policy.

Pezeshkian also highlighted the importance of national cohesion at home, stressing unity and consensus among all political groups, ethnicities, and religious communities as a key domestic policy objective.

Pezeshkian went on to point to what he described as hostile actions by the United States and Israel against the Iranian nation, including pressure and sanctions, the imposition of a 12-day war, support for unrest, and threatening and belligerent rhetoric.

He reiterated that Iran neither seeks nor welcomes war and does not view it as being in the interest of any party. However, he added that Western actors have, in practice, demonstrated a lack of genuine commitment to diplomacy and the principles of international law.

Reaffirming Iran’s policy of “dignified diplomacy,” Pezeshkian said the country’s approach is based on engagement and dialogue within the framework of international law, mutual respect, and the rejection of threats and the use of force. At the same time, he warned that any aggression against Iran and its people would be met with a firm and immediate response.

For his part, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed expressed satisfaction with the exchange and referred to his country’s diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region. He praised Iran’s principled emphasis on diplomacy and dialogue as the preferred means of resolving disputes and avoiding war.

The UAE president also reiterated his country’s readiness to play a constructive role in diplomatic processes aimed at promoting security-building measures and contributing to peace, stability, and sustainable development across the region.
