Pezeshkian: JCPOA Violators to Blame for Current Situation
WANA (Sep 25) – President Masoud Pezeshkian reaffirmed on Wednesday that the Islamic Republic of Iran has never sought nuclear weapons and remains ready to cooperate to ensure transparency and disprove what he called “false accusations” against Tehran. He stressed that those who violated their commitments and withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) are responsible for the current situation.
Speaking in New York during a meeting with European Council President António Costa, Pezeshkian recalled that since his presidential campaign, his stance has consistently been one of fostering national unity at home and strengthening ties with the international community.
He said Iran seeks to expand relations with all countries, including Europe, based on mutual respect and interests, but alleged that Israel has actively sought to obstruct this course “from the very first day of my administration.”
The president underlined that Iran does not seek war or conflict but is committed to constructive and friendly relations and open to dialogue aimed at overcoming disputes.
Criticizing Western double standards, Pezeshkian asked why global powers “raise a clamor over a small issue in Iran” while remaining silent on Israel’s repeated violations of international norms.
“What crime has the Islamic Republic of Iran committed? Have we assassinated the scientists of another country, or are we ourselves among the biggest victims of terrorism?” he said.
European Council President António Costa, for his part, expressed interest in strengthening engagement with Iran, emphasizing dialogue and understanding as the path to resolving disputes.
He reiterated the EU’s condemnation of Israeli actions and said establishing an independent Palestinian state—already recognized by a majority of European countries—remains the most effective solution to the conflict.
