WANA (Jul 08) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian departed Najaf for Tehran early Wednesday after attending the official reception ceremony for the body of Iran’s late leader during his visit to Iraq.

 

Pezeshkian traveled to Najaf to participate in the official ceremony honoring Iran’s late leader. During the visit, he paid his respects and also held talks with the Iraqi prime minister on issues of mutual interest.

 

The Iranian president also visited the Shrine of Imam Ali in Najaf, where he met with the shrine’s custodians. According to official reports, he was welcomed by a number of pilgrims and residents during his visit.

 

The trip comes as Iraq prepares for the next stages of the funeral ceremonies for Iran’s late leader in the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala. Large numbers of pilgrims and delegations from across the region are expected to attend the events.
