WANA (Jun 30) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed regional peace, bilateral relations, and cooperation within BRICS during a telephone conversation on Tuesday, with Pezeshkian expressing hope that responsible countries would prevent attempts by “some actors” to undermine regional security and stability.

 

Pezeshkian said Iran remains committed to the agreement reached to end the recent conflict and urged all parties to fulfill their obligations in good faith to help establish lasting peace and stability.

 

He also called on the international community to support the peace process and ensure that aggression and the use of force have no place in international relations.

 

The Iranian president thanked India and Modi for their support for regional peace and expressed hope that cooperation among responsible nations would defeat efforts to destabilize the region.

 

Modi extended condolences on behalf of the Indian government and people over the deaths of Iran’s supreme leader, senior officials, and civilians in the recent war. He also announced that India would send a special delegation to attend the funeral ceremony of the late Iranian leader.

 

The two leaders also discussed expanding bilateral cooperation. Pezeshkian said Iran seeks deeper political, economic, trade, transit, and international cooperation with India, describing the relationship as rooted in a long history of mutual respect.

 

He added that Tehran and New Delhi share similar views on many regional and international issues, creating opportunities for stronger strategic cooperation.

 

Pezeshkian also welcomed India’s successful hosting of the BRICS oil and energy ministers’ meeting and expressed hope for closer cooperation within the bloc.

 

Modi reaffirmed India’s support for all initiatives aimed at promoting peace and stability in West Asia, saying regional security is essential for global stability.

 

He also highlighted progress within BRICS and formally invited Pezeshkian to attend the upcoming BRICS leaders’ summit in India, expressing hope that the gathering would further strengthen multilateral cooperation among member states.
