WANA (Apr 19) – In a phone conversation between Iran’s President, Masoud Pezeshkian, and Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, the two sides exchanged views on the latest regional developments, the course of Islamabad’s negotiations, and issues related to the ceasefire.

According to reports, the Iranian president expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s persistent and serious efforts to establish peace, thanking both the prime minister and the country’s army chief for their roles in reducing tensions and supporting the ceasefire.

Pezeshkian went on to criticize what he described as the United States’ continued breaches of commitments and “bullying and unreasonable behavior,” stating that such actions have persisted during both the negotiation process and the ceasefire period. He described the U.S.’s provocative and unlawful measures—including what he referred to as a “naval blockade of Iran”—as a clear violation of the ceasefire understanding and contrary to the principles of the United Nations Charter.

The president stressed that these actions, along with threatening rhetoric from U.S. officials, not only fail to advance diplomacy but also deepen distrust regarding Washington’s seriousness. He added that such conduct further demonstrates that the United States is seeking to repeat past patterns and undermine diplomatic efforts.

Pezeshkian also reaffirmed Iran’s firm determination to defend its sovereignty and national interests against any renewed adventurism by the United States and the Israeli regime, warning that such actions could have serious consequences for regional and global security.

He further emphasized Iran’s commitment to strengthening relations with neighboring countries, particularly those along the southern Persian Gulf, based on good neighborliness and mutual respect. The president expressed hope that these countries would draw on recent experiences to enhance regional peace and security through collective cooperation and by avoiding destructive interference from extra-regional actors, especially the United States.

During the conversation, Pakistan’s prime minister also highlighted his country’s efforts to end conflicts and promote peace in the region, briefing the Iranian president on his recent consultations with regional countries and the latest diplomatic initiatives undertaken by Islamabad.
