WANA (Sep 01) – The Iranian President emphasized the strategic nature of Iran-Russia relations and expressed gratitude for Moscow’s support of Tehran in international forums. He stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran would resist unilateralism and pressure-based policies, noting that strengthening regional cooperation and multilateralism could help reduce the impact of these sanctions.

 

Speaking on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian highlighted the high level of bilateral ties and the favorable implementation of joint agreements. He expressed appreciation for the support of the Russian government and people at various junctures, including wartime and under U.S. sanctions.

 

The Iranian President noted that Russia’s positions at the United Nations and other international platforms reflect the unique nature of Tehran-Moscow relations, demonstrating that their connection is strategic and built on shared interests rather than a routine partnership.

 

Emphasizing the need to counter unilateralism and coercive policies, Dr. Pezeshkian asserted that both nations possess the strength to stand firm against unjust U.S. sanctions. He described the SCO summit as evidence of a broader global resolve to oppose unilateralism, adding that international law must not be dictated by a single power and that no country has the right to violate another’s sovereignty or enforce its goals through violence.

 

Referring to recent military aggression against Iran by the U.S. and Israel—which resulted in the deaths of senior leadership, commanders, and civilians, including students—Dr. Pezeshkian declared these actions illegal and unjustifiable.

 

He affirmed that the Iranian people stood strong against this aggression and would do so again if such actions persist. However, Dr. Pezeshkian indicated Iran’s readiness to fulfill its obligations under the recent agreement, provided the U.S. returns to its commitments, emphasizing that Washington can no longer force illegal demands on Iran through pressure.

 

He added that Iran’s active involvement in regional bodies like the SCO and BRICS reinforces multilateralism, expressing full support for Russia’s approach toward a multipolar world order.

 

Highlighting the deep and sincere ties between Tehran and Moscow, the Iranian President noted that bilateral cooperation has improved across all sectors and will expand further.

 

He argued that Western sanctions ultimately deprive the West of economic opportunities, adding that closer ties among SCO member states will diminish the effectiveness of unilateral pressure.

 

Russian President Vladimir Putin honored the memory of Iran’s late leader and acknowledged his role in advancing the strategic partnership between the two nations, reaffirming Moscow’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation.

 

President Putin characterized the attack that led to the deaths of Iranian officials, commanders, and citizens as a major tragedy and an unjustifiable crime. He stated that the U.S. and the Israeli regime failed to achieve their objectives in Iran, attributing this failure to the unity and resilience of the Iranian public.

 

The Russian President revealed that Moscow had repeatedly warned Washington and Israel that a military approach against Iran would yield no success, noting that Western powers are beginning to realize Iran’s deep-rooted civilizational strength.

 

Expressing concern over ongoing regional tensions, Putin voiced hope for tangible results from negotiations, stating that all parties share an interest in reaching a resolution. He confirmed that Moscow would continue to expand its relations with Tehran in all fields and expressed the solidarity of the Russian people with Iranians defending their national interests.

 

Furthermore, Putin highlighted that economic and trade relations between Russia and Iran have maintained a positive trajectory despite challenging military and political conditions.
