Pezeshkian: U.S. and Europe Must Prove Their Sincerity
WANA (Nov 05) – In a phone call on Wednesday with French President Emmanuel Macron, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that the Islamic Republic has always welcomed dialogue and engagement, but stressed that it is now the other parties who must take concrete steps to build trust.
Pezeshkian stated, “Iran has consistently supported dialogue and cooperation. However, it is the opposite side that must demonstrate respect for the rights of the Islamic Republic of Iran and refrain from imposing excessive demands. It is not Iran that must prove its sincerity; rather, the United States and Europe must show honesty in order to gain Iran’s trust.”
Earlier in the call, President Macron expressed appreciation for what he described as Iran’s “practical steps” toward removing certain barriers and implementing previous agreements reached in earlier meetings.
Macron said he would work to create a new framework for negotiations aimed at reaching a “clear outcome” between Iran and Western countries. He emphasized the need to continue talks in order to improve transparency, build confidence, achieve agreements, ease sanctions, and expand bilateral relations.
Responding to Macron’s remarks regarding dialogue with the United States, Pezeshkian pointed to Iran’s past negotiating experiences and reiterated that Iran is not pursuing nuclear weapons.
“Based on the fatwa of the Supreme Leader and Iran’s national security and defense doctrine, Iran has never sought to obtain nuclear weapons,” he said. “Yet, despite this clear position, Iran continues to face increasing pressure and sanctions due to unfounded accusations alleging efforts to build such weapons.”
Pezeshkian added that resolving misunderstandings through logic and dialogue is the principled approach of the Islamic Republic, noting that force and threats only worsen disputes rather than solving them.
