Pezeshkian Visits Pakistan to Boost Ties and Islamic Unity
WANA (Aug 02) – The official visit of Iran’s President to Pakistan has begun with the aim of enhancing bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between the two countries. According to Iran’s ambassador in Islamabad, the trip symbolizes the deep cultural and political bonds between Iran and Pakistan and will feature the signing of several cooperation agreements in the fields of economy, trade, transportation, customs, tourism, and cultural exchange.
The visit commences in Lahore, where the Iranian President will pay tribute at the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal and tour the city’s historic landmarks. The delegation will then proceed to Islamabad for high-level meetings with senior Pakistani officials to discuss strengthening relations and streamlining cooperation processes. Other highlights of the trip include a meeting with Pakistani business leaders and the exploration of plans to establish a free trade zone at the Rimdan-Gabd border crossing.
Citing the growth of bilateral trade to $3.7 billion, Iran’s ambassador emphasized the significant potential for further expansion, particularly through local currency settlements and barter trade. He also stressed the need for greater unity among Islamic nations in the face of recent developments in Gaza and Syria, condemning Israel’s policies and the support it receives from Western powers.
In parallel with the visit, the foreign ministers of Iran and Pakistan held a telephone conversation to review the latest state of bilateral relations and discuss avenues to boost economic and trade exchanges.
