Pezeshkian: You Can’t Talk to Someone Who Wants to Bully
WANA (Sep 23) – The President of Iran, prior to his trip to New York, stated: “We must sit together and engage in dialogue in order to better understand one another. But dialogue is not possible with someone who seeks to exert force, bully, act mischievously, or cause destruction.”
On the morning of Tuesday, September 23, 2025, after ringing the bell to mark the start of the 2025–2026 Iranian academic year and prior to leaving for New York to address the UN General Assembly, Masoud Pezeshkian explained the objectives of his trip: “My visit to the General Assembly is a very good opportunity to listen to the speeches of world leaders and present our own positions. The UN’s slogan this year is ‘Convergence and Progress for All,’ but in reality, unilateralism and authoritarianism dominate global discourse.”
He added: “Some countries are brutally exterminating their fellow human beings. Human beings, as the noblest of creation, must be respected. Watching children in Gaza die from lack of medicine and food is horrific. Israel bombards Gaza every day, while supposedly civilized and democratic countries support and arm it.”
He continued: “Does convergence mean everyone must be killed in order to resemble the one who dictates his will? All human beings have the right to make use of everything God has given.”
Referring to his goals in traveling to the United States, Pezeshkian said: “On this trip, I will declare my positions based on my belief in peace, justice, rights, and humanity. If conditions permit, I will also hold talks with the leaders of various countries, as well as with Iranians and experts there. As Imam(Iran’s late Supreme Leader) said,we are saying the same thing but with different terms. If we are truly human and seek truth and honesty, we will not quarrel with each other.”
The President stressed: “We must sit together and engage in dialogue to understand one another, but some countries resort to coercion and destruction. With such countries, dialogue is impossible. At the UN General Assembly, I will present Iran’s positions and speak of convergence within the framework of truth, rights, and equality. It cannot be that only Israel enjoys security; the security of all people in the world must be safeguarded.”
He continued: “I will use the unique opportunity of the United Nations to make our beliefs heard loudly in New York by the world.”
