Phone Call Between Iran and China on Nuclear Issue
WANA (Aug 25) – According to Iranian and Chinese media, Kazem Gharibabadi, Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, held a phone conversation on Friday with Ma Zhaoxu, Vice Minister and Executive Deputy Foreign Minister of China, focusing on the latest developments related to Iran’s nuclear program.
The call, initiated at Iran’s request, centered on the nuclear issue. In a statement, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said: “The Iranian nuclear issue has once again reached a critical juncture. China hopes the relevant parties will remain committed to resolving it through political and diplomatic means and actively create conditions for an early resumption of talks and negotiations.”
Ma Zhaoxu stressed that Beijing would continue to maintain an “objective and fair” position, promote dialogue for peace, and play a constructive role in advancing solutions.
For his part, Gharibabadi expressed appreciation for China’s role and emphasized that Tehran is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with Beijing. In a post on the social media platform X, he wrote: “During this discussion, we exchanged views on next week’s Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, the latest nuclear developments, the negotiations, and Resolution 2231, as well as aligning joint positions of Iran, China, and Russia.”
The call took place at a time when Iran’s nuclear dossier has once again come under the spotlight in international forums, with both Tehran and Beijing underscoring their commitment to pursuing a diplomatic path toward resolving the issue.
