Phone Conversation Between the Foreign Ministers of Iran and India
WANA (Mar 11) – Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, India’s Minister of External Affairs, held a phone conversation with Seyed Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, to discuss recent developments in the region.
During the call, Araghchi outlined what he described as crimes committed by the United States and the Israeli regime against the Iranian people over the past 11 days, including a missile attack on the Minab Girls’ Primary School on the first day of the war, followed by extensive strikes on civilian sites and public service facilities. He emphasized Iran’s determination to comprehensively defend the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Iranian foreign minister stated that the aggressive actions of the United States and the Zionist regime violate the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, noting that all governments have a responsibility to condemn this military aggression and clear breach of the law.
The foreign ministers of Iran and India also discussed the consequences of the U.S. and Israeli military actions for maritime security and the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
Referring to Iran’s principled approach to safeguarding maritime security in the Persian Gulf, Araghchi noted that the current insecurity and disruptions to shipping in the Persian Gulf stem from the destabilizing and aggressive actions of the United States, and that the international community should hold the U.S. accountable for this situation.
India’s foreign minister also emphasized the importance of continuing and strengthening bilateral relations between Tehran and New Delhi, and stressed the need for ongoing consultations to help restore stability to the region.
