Phone Conversation Between the Foreign Ministers of Iran and Iraq
WANA (Mar 02) – Fuad Hussein, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, held a phone call with Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, during which he extended his condolences and expressed sympathy to the government and people of Iran over the assassination of Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, carried out as a result of a joint action by the United States and the Israeli regime.
During the conversation, the Iraqi Foreign Minister emphasized Baghdad’s solidarity with the Iranian people. In response, Iran’s Foreign Minister expressed appreciation for the message of condolence from his Iraqi counterpart, as well as from Iraq’s religious authorities and people, and briefed him on the latest developments following what he described as the “military aggression of the United States and the Zionist regime” against Iran.
Referring to attacks on public and residential areas — including a missile strike on an elementary school in the city of Minab that resulted in the deaths of more than 160 schoolgirls, as well as an attack on a stadium in Lamerd, Fars Province, which left 20 people dead — Araghchi called for a firm response from the international community.
He described these attacks as a “clear violation of international law and humanitarian principles” and stressed the responsibility of international institutions to condemn such actions.
The Iranian Foreign Minister also stated that the U.S. military action in the midst of ongoing diplomatic negotiations — occurring for the second time in the past nine months — demonstrates what he called Washington’s “blatant disregard for the diplomatic path.”
He warned that the continuation of this trend could lead to broader instability across West Asia and seriously threaten regional peace and security.
