WANA (Mar 27) – Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Sergei Lavrov, Foreign Minister of Russia, held a telephone conversation to discuss regional developments and the consequences of the continued military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran.

 

The Iranian Foreign Minister referred to the efforts of several friendly and neighboring countries aimed at stopping the war, emphasizing that the principled positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the defense of its national rights and interests are clear and unwavering.

 

Araghchi highlighted the ongoing unlawful attacks by the United States and Israel against various targets, including civilian sites such as schools, hospitals, historical and cultural buildings, and residential areas. He underscored Iran’s determination to continue its firm defense of the country’s sovereignty.

 

He described the current insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz as a result of the military actions of the United States and Israel. Referring to the closure of the Strait to vessels affiliated with the United States, Israel, and other parties involved in the attacks against Iran, he stated that preventing the passage of aggressor vessels and their allies is Iran’s legal right as a coastal state.

 

He added that the competent authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran, fully aware of their responsibilities to ensure maritime safety and security in the waterway, have adopted necessary measures to safeguard Iran’s sovereignty and national security and to prevent the misuse of the Strait for hostile actions against the country.

 

Araghchi noted that the transit of vessels belonging to other countries through the Strait of Hormuz is carried out in coordination with the relevant Iranian authorities.

 

The Russian Foreign Minister, while once again condemning the actions of the United States and Israel, stressed the need to respect the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and expressed Russia’s readiness to continue consultations aimed at reducing tensions and restoring security and stability in the re gion.
