WANA (Sep 22) – On the eve of his participation in the annual United Nations General Assembly in New York, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met this evening with Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, presenting a report on the preparations made for the trip.

The Supreme Leader, while offering his prayers and best wishes for the president’s success, also provided remarks and recommendations.

The 80th session of the UN General Assembly, with the participation of 193 member states, will open on Tuesday, September 23, at the organization’s headquarters in New York. It serves as an important opportunity for heads of state and senior officials to share their views, exchange ideas, and explore avenues for advancing their national goals and policy agendas through this international forum.

During his trip, the Iranian president is also scheduled to hold meetings and consultations with leaders of various countries and the UN Secretary-General, as well as participate in sessions with think tanks, select institutions, and members of the Iranian diaspora.

This marks President Pezeshkian’s second visit to New York in his capacity as President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. His address to the General Assembly comes at a time when recent developments in Iran and the region have added greater significance to the trip.

Mounting political pressures and economic sanctions from the United States during Donald Trump’s second presidential term, the Israeli regime’s U.S.-backed military attack on Iran and the ensuing 12-day conflict, the unlawful and extralegal move by the European troika to trigger the snapback mechanism and reinstate UN sanctions after a decade of negotiations, Europe’s inaction and failure to uphold commitments under the JCPOA, along with the continued unilateralism and excessive demands of the U.S. and the West despite Iran’s declared readiness for dialogue and diplomatic settlement of disputes—all of these factors have heightened the sensitivity of this visit and drawn significant international media attention.
