Putin Congratulates Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei
WANA (Mar 09) – Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, has sent a congratulatory message to Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei on his selection as the new Leader of the Islamic Revolution. In his message, Putin reaffirmed Moscow’s continued support for Iran and expressed confidence in the new leader’s future role.
“I am confident that you will honorably continue your father’s work and unite the Iranian people in the face of hardships,” Putin said in the message. He added, “On my own behalf, I would like to reaffirm my continued support for Tehran and our solidarity with our Iranian friends. Russia has been and will remain a reliable partner of the Islamic Republic.”
In the message addressed to the new leader, Putin wrote: “Your Excellency, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei… please accept my most sincere congratulations on your election as the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
The Russian president also noted that assuming the position at a time when Iran is facing armed aggression would require “great courage and self-sacrifice.”
Earlier, the Foreign Ministry of China described the selection of Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei as the third leader of the Islamic Revolution as a decision in accordance with the country’s constitution. The Chinese ministry also warned the United States and Israel that Beijing opposes any attempt to target Iran’s leadership or the Islamic Republic.
Meanwhile, Abbas Kaabi, a member of the presiding board of the Assembly of Experts, announced that an extraordinary session of the body was held with the participation of 59 members—more than two-thirds of the assembly. Following a vote, 50 members elected Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei as the third leader of the Islamic Revolution.
According to the report, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Seyed Ali Khamenei, was assassinated on February 28 in what was described as a joint military attack by the United States and Israel.
