WANA (Jun 23) – Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated his country’s firm stance against the recent military strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran, calling the attacks “an unjustified and baseless act of aggression.”

Speaking during a Monday meeting at the Kremlin with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Putin emphasized: “These attacks are aggression without reason or justification.”

He added, “As you know, I have spoken by phone with the President of the United States, the Prime Minister of Israel, the President of the United Arab Emirates, and also your President. I am aware that you have recently met with several European foreign ministers. I’m very pleased you are here in Moscow today. This gives us an opportunity to discuss these urgent matters and think together about how we can resolve the current situation.”

The Russian President pointed to his country’s consistent position expressed through statements by the Russian Foreign Ministry and interventions at the United Nations Security Council, stating: “The unprovoked aggression against Iran has no foundation whatsoever.”

Putin affirmed the strength of bilateral ties: “We have long-standing, good, and trustworthy relations with Iran. We are doing our part to help the Iranian people and explore ways to find a solution.”

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in turn, conveyed greetings from the Supreme Leader and the President of Iran and thanked Moscow for its principled stance following the U.S. and Israeli military assault on Iran.

Expressing satisfaction over the meeting, Araghchi said, “This meeting is taking place during a highly sensitive moment in the region. Iran and Russia share a close, long-standing relationship that has developed into a strategic partnership in recent years. We have consistently maintained close consultations with our Russian friends on global security matters.”

He also highlighted the role of Russia in Iran’s peaceful nuclear program: “The Russian Federation is currently building a nuclear power plant for us in Bushehr. In addition, Russia has helped us reach nuclear agreements and played a constructive role in securing those deals.”

Araghchi continued: “We are grateful for Russia’s firm and correct stance in condemning these attacks. Russia stands on the right side of history, in accordance with international law.”

He noted, “Tensions are rising due to the unprovoked aggression by the Israeli regime and the United States. Their actions against Iran are completely illegitimate and violate both international laws and norms. What we are doing now is defending our sovereignty and our country—and our defense is legitimate.”

The meeting was also attended by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and the Russian President’s aide for foreign policy affairs. On the Iranian side, the Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs and the Iranian Ambassador to Moscow were present.
