Qalibaf: If U.S. Seeks an Agreement, Must Change Approach
WANA (Jun 08) – Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, emphasizing that the mere fact that there is not even a mention of lifting sanctions in the U.S. proposal clearly shows that the behavior of the United States in the indirect nuclear negotiations is contradictory and lacks sincerity, stated:
“The delusional President of the United States should understand that if he is truly seeking an agreement, he must change his approach and stop the division of labor with the Zionist regime and pursue Netanyahu’s failed ideas.”
This morning in the Parliament, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, presented a report on his recent trip to Latin America and said:
“Last week, representing the great nation of Iran, I traveled to Latin America, participated in the BRICS Speakers of Parliament Summit, and held bilateral meetings with senior officials of Venezuela, Cuba, and Brazil to develop economic, political, and trade relations.
Visiting these countries allowed for a better understanding of the vast capacities in this region for enhancing Iran’s trade balance, and in the negotiations held, the understandings reached were followed up on by the government, and new cooperation proposals with these countries were agreed upon. If implemented, these agreements could significantly impact Iran’s economy.”
The Speaker of Parliament continued: “Of course, the main goal of the trip was participation in the BRICS Summit, where Iran, as a new member of this international body, is making serious efforts to contribute to its strengthening, as it considers BRICS one of the most important institutions that can help countries gain independence.
BRICS was formed to counter unilateralism and has tools that can play an effective role in establishing a new order in a multipolar world. The Iranian delegation at the summit once again sought to highlight the difficult conditions of the people of Gaza and called on everyone to take practical action to defend humanity. The Islamic Republic of Iran considers it its duty to always be the voice of the oppressed, especially the oppressed and Muslim people of Gaza in the occupied Palestine.”
Qalibaf, stating that “we once again emphasize, as clearly outlined in the Strategic Action Plan for the Lifting of Sanctions Law, that Iran is ready—in exchange for the lifting of sanctions and economic benefit—to build the necessary confidence to prove the peaceful nature of its nuclear activities, while preserving enrichment on its own soil,” continued:
“But the very fact that there is not even a mention of lifting sanctions in the U.S. proposal clearly shows that the behavior of the United States in the indirect nuclear negotiations is contradictory and lacks sincerity. On the one hand, the U.S. smiles and speaks of economic openings for Iran, but in practice, not only seeks to deprive us of our international right to enrichment, it also refuses to even promise the lifting of sanctions from a bullying position. It is clear that no rational logic would accept such a one-sided and imposed agreement.”
He stressed: “The delusional President of the United States should understand that if he is truly seeking an agreement, he must change his approach and stop the division of labor with the Zionist regime and pursuing Netanyahu’s failed ideas.
We have said it many times before, and once again we emphasize: by solving the livelihood and economic issues of the people and relying on domestic capacities, we must force the arrogant U.S. government to accept the lifting of sanctions in a win-win agreement.”
