Qalibaf to Attend World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva
WANA (Jul 28) – The Special Assistant to the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly for International Affairs has announced that Iran’s Parliament Speaker will travel to Geneva, Switzerland, to attend the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament.
Referring to the Iranian parliamentary delegation’s trip to Geneva, Abolfazl Amouei said: “This conference represents the highest-level global parliamentary gathering, held every five years in collaboration with the United Nations.”
He explained that the World Conference of Speakers of Parliament plays a significant role in strengthening the parliamentary dimension of global governance, promoting multilateralism, encouraging inter-parliamentary dialogue, and translating international commitments into national actions. The sixth edition of this conference will be held under the official theme: “Parliamentary cooperation and multilateralism in a turbulent world: Peace, justice and strong institutions for all.”
Detailing the Iranian delegation’s participation, Amouei noted: “The sixth conference will be held at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva and will include 112 parliamentary delegations, 96 of which will be led by their respective Speakers of Parliament. Iran’s delegation will also participate at the Speaker level, accompanied by several members of parliament. The Speaker of Iran’s Parliament will address the General Assembly and will also hold bilateral meetings with a number of his counterparts.”
Amouei added that this gathering marks the first global-level meeting of parliamentary leaders following the Zionist regime’s 12-day war against Iran. He highlighted its importance due to the regional and international security consequences of that conflict. “Given the worsening conditions in Gaza, particularly the use of famine as a weapon and the ongoing genocide of Palestinians, it is expected that representatives from across the world will pay special attention to this issue,” he concluded.

The 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament: A Valuable Opportunity for Iran
Ahead of his trip to Geneva, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf described the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament as “a valuable opportunity for the Islamic Republic of Iran.” Referring to escalating tensions around the world and in the region, he stressed that unilateralism by major powers and foreign interference are the primary drivers of recent instability.
Qalibaf highlighted the participation of over 110 countries and the joint organization of the event by the United Nations and the Inter-Parliamentary Union. He noted that this gathering offers a suitable platform to demand accountability from international institutions—particularly in response to the full-scale war in Gaza. According to him, “The Zionist regime is subjecting women and children to a slow death through famine and thirst.”
The Iranian speaker called the national unity displayed during the recent Israeli attack on Iran “a miracle,” saying that even political factions with differing views stood together at that moment. He also announced plans to meet with members of the Iranian community in Geneva to hear their concerns, expressing hope that this trip would contribute to strengthening Iran’s international standing and enhancing internal cohesion.
