WANA (Jan 21) – Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs has emphasized the need to avoid further escalation in the Middle East, describing diplomacy as the most effective and viable solution for addressing Iran’s nuclear file.

According to reports, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, pointed to rising regional and international tensions and stressed that Qatar has always believed there is “room for diplomacy,” warning that any escalation would carry serious and unintended consequences.

Responding to threats made by former U.S. President Donald Trump against Iran, the Qatari prime minister said past experiences have shown that military solutions are neither effective nor sustainable, but instead lead to greater instability. Referring to the Iraq war, he added, “This path was tested 20 years ago and it did not work. We do not want to see a military escalation of tensions in our region.”

Reiterating the need for a diplomatic approach toward Iran, Al Thani said, “With all these crises unfolding around us, we must act with greater calm and wisdom. There are many ways to find solutions that can address problems and provide security guarantees that bring prosperity for us and for the people of Iran.”

The Qatari foreign minister also voiced concern over the rising level of tensions in the Middle East, noting that the war in Gaza and developments related to Iran continue to weigh heavily on regional stability. He added that Doha remains engaged in ongoing dialogue with both Tehran and Washington, underscoring that diplomacy remains the best way to address Iran’s nuclear program.

In remarks to the President and CEO of the World Economic Forum, Qatar’s prime minister called for the creation of a “new regional security architecture” in the Middle East, one that would reduce mutual perceptions of threat among countries in the region.
