WANA (Jun 30) – Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Majed Al-Ansari, said on Tuesday that no high-level meeting between the United States and Iran is scheduled to take place in Qatar.

 

Al-Ansari stated that U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will be in Qatar to meet with mediators and discuss progress in ongoing negotiations.

 

He stressed that no high-level U.S.-Iran meeting has been planned and said Doha does not expect senior Iranian officials to visit Qatar at this time. However, he noted that the recent escalation in the Strait of Hormuz has not halted technical discussions, which continue to cover a range of issues, including Iran’s nuclear program and its frozen assets.

 

According to Al-Ansari, no breakthrough has yet been achieved that would allow the release of Iran’s blocked funds.

 

His remarks came after Iran’s chief negotiator, Kazem Gharibabadi, dismissed reports that technical working-group meetings would be held this week under the framework of the memorandum of understanding on ending the imposed war.

 

Responding to reporters, Gharibabadi said no technical working-group meetings have been scheduled for this week. He added that consultations with Qatar, including discussions on monitoring the implementation of the other side’s commitments, are continuing as usual, but media reports claiming that technical talks would be held in Doha are inaccurate.

 

Al-Ansari also said Qatar continues to serve as the financial intermediary for the management of Iran’s frozen assets under the existing agreement. He reiterated that no agreement has yet been reached to permit the transfer of those funds, which remain designated exclusively for humanitarian purchases under the arrangement between Washington and Tehran.

 

The Qatari spokesperson further said Doha coordinates daily with the Sultanate of Oman and other regional countries to ensure maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz. He reaffirmed Qatar’s opposition to any unilateral action that would undermine freedom of navigation in the strategic waterway.

 

He added that the immediate priority is clearing naval mines and ensuring the safe passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, describing demining operations as a highly complex task requiring significant technical capabilities.
