WANA (Jun 24) – Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said Tuesday in a joint press conference with his Lebanese counterpart in Doha that U.S. President Donald Trump called Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani following Iran’s missile strike on the U.S. Al-Udeid airbase near Doha.

Al Thani added that it was Washington that asked Qatar to contact Iran and assess its willingness for a ceasefire. Doha then reached out to Tehran, which eventually led to a ceasefire agreement.

Throughout the 12-day conflict, Iran repeatedly stated that it would only halt its military response if Israeli attacks on Iranian territory and interests ceased.

In recent days, Israeli sources reported that Tel Aviv was preparing to stop its strikes on Iran. Israel’s Kan TV quoted a senior official saying Israel had sent a message through the U.S. and an Arab country, indicating it no longer intended to continue its attacks on Iranian soil.

Despite this request, Israel has violated the ceasefire by new wave of strikes on different parts of Iran just hours after ceasefire.

During the conflict, Iran launched hypersonic missiles targeting and destroying several strategic Israeli sites, particularly in Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Be’er Sheva.
