WANA (Jun 14) – As diplomatic consultations between Iran and the United States continue, a Qatari delegation led by one of the advisers to the country’s foreign minister arrived in Tehran on Sunday to follow up on the exchange of messages between the two sides regarding the memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the conflict.

 

The visit comes as Qatar has played an active role in recent weeks in facilitating indirect communications between Tehran and Washington. According to reports, the Qatari delegation has been tasked with continuing negotiations and message exchanges between the two parties in an effort to move closer to a final agreement.

 

Earlier, Iran’s foreign minister stated in a message on Friday that the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding” was closer than ever to being finalized. Meanwhile, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said on Saturday that, given the progress achieved in the negotiations, the chances of finalizing the memorandum in the coming days were high.

 

Baghaei also dismissed reports suggesting that an Iranian negotiating team might travel to Geneva or Islamabad to finalize the agreement, saying there are currently no plans for such a trip within the next day or two.

 

At the same time, CNN, citing a source familiar with the matter, reported that Qatari negotiators, in coordination with the United States, departed for Tehran on Sunday morning to help facilitate the finalization of an agreement between Iran and the U.S.

 

It is worth noting that Qatari delegation also visited Tehran last Wednesday. The latest visit is widely seen as a continuation of Doha’s efforts to advance the negotiation process and help bridge differences between the two sides.
