WANA (May 10) – In a significant shift in regional maritime dynamics, the first Qatari-owned Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) tanker has transited the Strait of Hormuz after receiving formal clearance from Iranian authorities.

The vessel, identified as the “Al Kharaitiyat,” transmitted its latest signal from the waters of the Sea of Oman. The tanker was initially spotted at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz yesterday before temporarily deactivating its Automatic Identification System (AIS).

Currently bound for Pakistan, the Al Kharaitiyat marks the first non-Iranian-affiliated vessel to secure transit permission from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy. The passage took place through a designated “secure corridor” established by Iran.
