WANA (Jul 04) – Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, departed for the city of Khankendi on the morning of Friday, July 4, at the invitation of Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, to attend the 17th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), hosted this year by Azerbaijan.

Before leaving Tehran, President Pezeshkian underscored the importance of the event, stating: “This trip is framed within the trilateral relations among Iran, Turkey, and Pakistan, and marks a first step toward deeper regional cooperation among the ten ECO member states.” He emphasized that the ECO summit provides a platform for dialogue and joint cooperation across economic, social, and political areas.

He added: “We hope this visit not only strengthens political engagement but also contributes to improving the regional situation, fostering peace and stability, and enhancing collaboration among neighboring countries. The more coordination and unity we build in the region, the less room there will be for enemies to exploit instability.”

During the summit, President Pezeshkian will deliver a speech and hold bilateral meetings with several participating heads of state. High-ranking officials from Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan will also attend the summit, which serves as an opportunity to reinforce regional ties in pursuit of shared interests.
