WANA (Jun 29) – As preparations continue for the funeral ceremonies of Iran’s late leader, reports indicate that a number of senior officials and high-ranking delegations from across the region are expected to attend the events, which will be held over several days in Tehran, Qom, Mashhad, and parts of Iraq.

 

According to published reports, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will travel to Iran to participate in the funeral ceremony. Reports suggest that he was among the first regional leaders to announce his intention to attend.

 

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow is also scheduled to arrive in Tehran next week at the head of a high-level delegation. Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili is likewise expected to attend the funeral and burial ceremonies, leading an official delegation.

 

Meanwhile, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is set to travel to Iran for the occasion. Reports also indicate that Qatar’s Emir is likely to head his country’s delegation. Should his travel plans change, Qatar’s prime minister is expected to lead the delegation instead.

 

In South Asia, Pakistan’s prime minister is scheduled to arrive in Iran on Friday, July 3, accompanied by a senior delegation. He previously told Pakistan’s National Assembly that the visit follows an official invitation from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to attend the funeral ceremonies.

 

According to available information, President Pezeshkian will also travel to Iraq as part of the funeral program. Under the planned schedule, the late leader’s body will be transferred to four Iraqi cities following ceremonies in Tehran and Qom before returning to Mashhad for the final burial. As a result, some foreign officials and pilgrims who had originally planned to attend the ceremonies in Iran have reportedly decided to participate in the Iraqi events instead.

 

Iran’s First Vice President has announced that foreign dignitaries and official delegations will begin arriving on Friday. He said all necessary arrangements have been made to receive the guests, facilitate their participation in the ceremonies, and organize bilateral meetings with Iranian officials.

 

According to the official schedule, the public farewell ceremony will begin at 6:00 a.m. on July 4 at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Mosalla and continue until 8:00 p.m. on July 5. Funeral prayers will be held on the morning of July 5. Following the ceremonies in Tehran, Qom, and Iraq, the late leader will be laid to rest in Mashhad on Thursday, July 9.
