Removal of Blue Check from Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson’s X Account
WANA (May 05) – In a continuation of controversial actions by the social media platform X against official accounts of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the blue checkmark (verification badge) of the Foreign Ministry spokesperson’s account has also been removed.
According to reports, Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced the move in a post on X, stating that the platform had previously removed verification badges from the official accounts of the Ministry and the Foreign Minister, and has now done the same to the spokesperson’s account.
He described the action as “arbitrary and unjustified,” adding that it is part of a broader pattern of censorship and what he called “digital banditry,” aimed at suppressing the truth about what he referred to as the “illegal war of the United States against the Iranian people.”
This development comes amid earlier instances of verification badges being removed from official Iranian accounts, which had already sparked reactions and been viewed as part of a confrontational approach by the platform toward these entities.
