Repeated Requests from U.S. Soldiers Seeking to Avoid War with Iran
WANA (Mar 07) – The director of a U.S. organization that supports soldiers who oppose participating in wars says a hotline set up to assist military personnel seeking to avoid involvement in a potential war with Iran has been receiving continuous calls.
Mike Prysner, executive director of the Washington-based Center on Conscience & War, wrote in a post on X that the organization’s hotline for American troops has been ringing non-stop.
The hotline has been promoted for service members who believe a U.S.–Israeli war against Iran would be wrong and who want guidance on how to refuse participation.
According to Prysner, the number of military units being activated for possible deployment is far greater than what the American public has been told, a situation that has fueled concern among troops and prompted a surge of calls to the hotline.
Meanwhile, the United States Department of Defense recently released the names and photographs of the first American service members killed in Iran’s retaliatory strikes on a U.S. base in Kuwait.
In an earlier message, Prysner said: “With the first American casualties in yet another immoral war, more soldiers will begin to question their role. Our job is to find them, defend them, and help bring them home.”
