Report of Iran Leaving NPT in Parliament Denied
WANA (Sep 06) – Alireza Salimi, a member of the Iranian Parliament’s presiding board, has denied reports suggesting that a “three-urgent” bill on Iran’s withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) would be discussed in the parliamentary session on Sunday, September 6.
Earlier, some media outlets had cited Salimi, claiming that the parliament was set to urgently review a plan to counter the “snapback” mechanism and exit the NPT. Salimi clarified that these reports were inaccurate and that no such decision is on the parliament’s agenda.
He emphasized that the Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee is still reviewing and finalizing measures related to Iran’s response to the snapback mechanism. To date, no final report has been submitted, and any discussion regarding withdrawal from the NPT has not reached the parliamentary floor.
Salimi also urged journalists to exercise caution when reporting on sensitive national and nuclear issues, and to accurately convey officials’ statements to prevent misinformation and rumors.
