Reports of Two Deaths Amid Unrest in Southwestern Iran
WANA (Jan 01) – Following protest gatherings on the morning of today in the city of Lordegan, located in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province in southwestern Iran, reports have emerged of unrest, clashes, and damage to several government and public buildings. Official sources have confirmed that two people were killed and several others injured during the incidents.
Start of the Gatherings and Spread of Unrest
According to reports, the gatherings began around 9:00 a.m., with approximately 150 people assembling at several locations across Lordegan, including main squares and in front of the governor’s office. As the number of participants gradually increased, slogans described as radical and confrontational were chanted during parts of the protest.

Clashes and Damage to Public Property
Reports indicate that after being incited by certain individuals, some participants began throwing stones at administrative and public buildings, including the governor’s office, the municipality, the courthouse, the city’s prayer hall (Mosalla), the Martyrs Foundation, and several banks. Police and security forces were subsequently deployed to the area and warned demonstrators to stop violent actions. However, in some locations, stone-throwing at police forces continued.
Response by Security Forces
As tensions persisted, police used tear gas to disperse the crowd. Reports suggest that several police officers were injured during the clashes.

Reports of Extensive Damage and Human Casualties
According to official sources, the buildings of the Martyrs Foundation, the Mosalla, the governor’s office, the courthouse, and several banks sustained significant damage during the unrest. An informed source also reported that two people were killed and a number of others from both sides of the confrontation were injured. Police have detained several individuals in connection with the incidents.
Official Reactions and Positions
Some families of those killed have called for legal action against those responsible for the unrest. Meanwhile, the police commander of Lordegan stressed that peaceful protest is a legal right of citizens, but stated that the destruction of public property, arson, and attacks on security forces do not fall within the framework of civil protest and will be dealt with according to the law.
