WANA (Aug 11) – Mohsen Rezaei, Iran’s Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, said the United States must end the war, release Iran’s frozen assets and bring an end to fighting across the region, including in Lebanon and Gaza.

 

Speaking during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador Zong Peiwu, Rezaei said the United States is responsible for insecurity in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman, adding that Washington had put the entire region at risk by imposing a war on Iran.

 

He said the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed until the United States changes its conduct and accepts Iran’s conditions. Rezaei added that other conditions had also been conveyed to the US through intermediaries.

 

Rezaei also said that any agreement between Iran and Oman on transit routes through the Strait of Hormuz would be a separate matter from the closure of the strait.

 

During the meeting, Rezaei highlighted the strategic partnership between Iran and China, as well as their membership in major international frameworks such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS, saying these provide significant potential for expanding bilateral relations.

 

He also welcomed China’s position against an anti-Iran resolution at the UN Security Council during the recent war.

 

Zong Peiwu, meanwhile, reiterated China’s opposition to the US and Israeli military attacks on Iran, saying Chinese President Xi Jinping had proposed a four-point initiative aimed at promoting peace and stability in West Asia.

 

The Chinese ambassador also said Beijing supports stronger relations among countries in the region, including the Persian Gulf states.
