Russia Confirms Release of Detained Citizen in Iran
WANA (Dec 18) – The Russian Embassy in Tehran has confirmed media reports regarding the release of a Russian citizen who had been detained in Iran.
In a statement, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Iran said that Iranian authorities have confirmed the release of the Russian national, who had been held in detention for a prolonged period.
According to the statement, the individual is currently at the Russian Embassy, is in satisfactory physical condition, and is preparing to return to Russia.
The statement noted that the Russian citizen was sentenced to imprisonment in the autumn of last year for taking photographs that allegedly captured certain “sensitive facilities.”
From the moment of his detention, his case remained a priority for the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Embassy, which made continuous and persistent efforts to secure his release.
The Russian Embassy also expressed its gratitude to the Iranian side for its assistance in resolving the matter, describing the development as a reflection of the strong cooperation between Russia and Iran in this important humanitarian sphere.
