WANA (Jun 09) –  Iran’s nuclear chief has confirmed that the agreement with Russia calls for the construction of eight nuclear power plants in Iran, four of which are to be located in the southern city of Bushehr.

According to Ebrahim Rezaei, Mohammad Eslami, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), made the statement during a visit by members of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission to the Tehran Research Reactor and radiopharmaceutical production facilities.

The Commission spokesman Ebrahim Rezaei stated that lawmakers were briefed on the latest developments and achievements in Iran’s nuclear program during their visit to various AEOI sites.

“Mr. Eslami explained that Iran has an existing contract with Russia for the construction of eight nuclear reactors, including four in Bushehr. He also noted that the construction of Bushehr Units 2 and 3 is being carried out entirely by Iranian companies,” Rezaei stated.

Construction of Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant Units 2 and 3 is progressing on schedule, according to project officials. All work fronts are operating in three shifts, and the project is expected to be completed by the end of Iran’s Seventh Development Plan.

The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) has signed a contract with a Russian design company, while Iranian engineers are fully responsible for the implementation. Unit 2 has now entered the phase of constructing its protective dome, and over 5,000 workers are currently engaged in building activities on-site.

The spokesperson for the Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission also stated: “Mr. Azizi, Chairman of the National Security Commission, expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) in advancing the country’s nuclear achievements, implementing the Strategic Action Law, and executing the Seventh Development Plan. He emphasized that the nuclear industry is the industry of life and plays a vital role in the country’s progress across various sectors. It is the will of the Iranian people that we support this industry, as it secures the future of the nation.”

He added: “Mr. Azizi noted that the presence of members of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission at the AEOI at this particular time—just ahead of the IAEA Board of Governors meeting— carries a message to all the enemies of the Iranian nation — namely, that the nuclear industry cannot be shut down. ”

“We are representing the will of the Iranian people, and accordingly, the Parliament has mobilized all its capacities to ensure the continuation, resilience, and strength of the nuclear industry. We are committed to standing by this industry with our lives and will not retreat from it.”

During this visit, the Chairman of the National Security Commission also stressed: “If Western parties act mischievously at the IAEA Board of Governors, the instruments of power and appropriate responses have already been anticipated and prepared for.”
