WANA (May 09) – Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister announced that Moscow will not support the draft resolution proposed by the United States and Bahrain against Iran at the United Nations Security Council, calling on the sponsors to withdraw the document.

According to Russian media reports, Alexander Alimov, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, said on Saturday in an interview with the newspaper Izvestia that Moscow sees no basis for approving the draft and has urged its authors to halt the voting process.

“We ask the co-authors of the US-Bahrain draft resolution to withdraw it and refrain from pushing it forward, as we still see no value or potential in this document,” Alimov stated.

He also revealed that Russia and China have prepared their own draft resolution, which includes clear calls for all parties to cease hostilities, avoid the use of force, and resolve disputes through negotiations.

According to the Russian official, the Moscow-Beijing proposal also contains measures aimed at ensuring freedom of navigation.

Alimov further noted that no deadline has yet been set for making a decision on either of the two draft resolutions currently under discussion at the Security Council.

His remarks come after Al Jazeera reported on Friday that a revised version of the US-Bahrain draft resolution had been circulated among Security Council members, a move that reportedly faced objections from Russia.
